Types of basement construction

Poured concrete

Poured concrete tends to be stronger than any other basement construction and it is much more resistant to water infiltration. A poured concrete foundation is a modern design, and many builders are using poured concrete foundations for new houses.

Concrete block

Concrete blocks are made of standard size blocks and concrete combined like bricks. The advantage of us using concrete block is they can hold more weight than poured concrete foundation.

Precast concrete

It is a construction material or product manufactured by casting concrete in a reusable mold form and then transported to the construction site and lifted into the place.

How basements are built?

Pick a site

Make sure to investigate the conditions of the soil. In most scenarios, soil condition requires special foundation because the land may not have much strength and other properties of soil may lead to future problems. Your builder is in the best position to advise on the issue.

Survey

The survey process is to determine and locate all the actual corners of the foundation. So, the entire structure can be formed.

Excavation

Excavation is digging the ground for the basement and preconstruction process.

Footings

Create wood forms or trenches for the basement and pour concrete into it.

Seal the footings

Once the concrete has been cured, use the concrete block to create the walls if you’re constructing a basement. Normally, your masons will start from your block wall in the corner of the foundation. Line from the stem wall allowing them to build a plumb and level wall between the points. The result is a straight and level wall keeping the basement walls consistent.

Treat your foundation

Treat your basement walls with another round to keep moisture out. Acrylic can be applied immediately after finishing the concrete and they act in many regards as a curing element.
